This weekend, the town hall reveals in Nice-press that the vigils and the police have seized several dozen white weapons at the entrance to the carnival, which has not known the slightest incident this year. “But it is unthinkable to think that the controls could stop.”
The 2025 edition of the Nice Carnival ends this weekend with a record crowd and fifteen without task, since the many new features launched have known no hiccups.
As every year, the installation of black palisades all around the festivities is debated in the city and annoys certain inhabitants, nostalgic for a more popular event and open to the city.
It is in this spirit that the launch of the Carnavalina was a real success fifteen days ago: this free parade and without safety airlocks, on avenue Jean-Doctor and Place Masséna just before the opening ceremony, was able to attract 32,000 onlookers.
Consequently, if we manage to do it an entire afternoon, why not offer the entire carnival in this form? This is the simple question that Nice-Presse posed the mayor, Friday, February 28.
“You tell me about the Carnavalina, which was a success, a great moment of enthusiasm. I am very proud. But until the previous evening, it was not assured!”
“The company has changed”
Christian Estrosi Rembobine: “It took a whole bunch of meetings with the prefecture so that we manage to organize this party without barriers. It was the minister himself who gave the green light a few hours before. If there had been an incident wherever it was in France at that time, we would not have obtained the additional police officers who were needed, we would have had to postpone, or cancel.”
And to explain: “The current security system was set up after the Paris attacks in 2015. Without this screw tour, we no longer had a carnival. So obviously, I would like to find the things that I could know, my grandfather who made confetti packages, the open parades … but the company has changed!”
“Spectators are trying, without success, to go to the armed show, do you realize?”
“If there was a problem, which would come to seek in your opinion? There is none, since we filter, we excavate everyone, the police are doing exceptional work”.
Christian Estrosi reveals it to us, “Each evening, we grasp a crazy amount of knives and cutters. Spectators try, without success, to go to the armed show, you realize? It is very, very politician to make people believe that it would be wise to organize our parades without all the controls that we carry out.”
“Rise in power”
On the accessibility of the party, the mayor also wanted to develop: “It's been years since the carnival is gaining momentum, that the model is revised. We launched the village, free, we have reorganized a spectacular final, too. And if you come disguised from head to toe, you do not pay either. At each Corso, 1000 spectators played the game.”
Without forgetting the fallout: “The carnival is more and more popular, for the Nice: those who come to have fun, and the 1200 whose use depends on it! Not to mention the hoteliers and restaurateurs who could not refuel in winter without all this. It is a capital fact that some forget …”
In 2026, the meeting will be back, from February 11 to March 1, with, for the first time, the theme “Long live the queen”, “Rich in strong messages and which will be a tribute to the great heroines of history and fiction, to the female figures that have shaped the world”.
