
On the road to historic Provence, from Marseille to La Ciotat, multiply the incredible vestiges of the past. In the midst of travel, stand the superb localities of Miramas-le-Vieux and Saint-Chamas.
Going on stroll along the Mediterranean shores of the Bouches-Du- Rhône is the assurance of seeing the landscape. Calanques, charming villages, splendid architectural constructions, a natural environment of extraordinary wealth … The list is long. And it also includes an immeasurable heritage spreading out of the superior Paleolithic to the Second World War.
By surveying the coast, from Marseille to La Ciotat, via Aubagne, Aix-à-Provence or even Cassis, we can go in the footsteps of history, between the Roman vestiges, of the Middle Ages and many other past many centuries.
Among the choice of choice, two lovely municipalities, namely Saint-Chamas and Miramas-le-Vieux. We are there in the heart of historical Provence, that of millennial stones. Geographically, they are a stone's throw from the famous Berre pond, a particularly well -preserved decor.
Saint-Chamas and his witnesses of the past
The first locality, Saint-Chamas, is divided into two by a hill pierced with caves. On the one hand, this overlooks a pine forest, on the other, we see a pleasant small marina. The picturesque city center is ideal for strolling between beautiful shops, shaded plates and narrow streets. We also admire the door of the fort, the last rest of the surrounding wall dating back to the 15th century.

Exploration continues with troglodyte habitats, caves dug in the 17th century transformed into apartments. Nor do not forget the bridge of the clock, built in 1868. Further, about twenty minutes on foot, there is the Flavian bridge, a monument built in the 1st century with Jesus Christ. A witness to the Roman era and the time of the Emperor Augustus.
The “Quillé” in Miramas, ode in medieval style
In Miramas now, and more precisely in the authentic district of “old” or the “quilé”, we come across a medieval atmosphere. We follow streets lined with apparent stone houses, before discovering a washhouse, or even the Saint-Julien chapel, symbol of Romanesque art. It is one of the oldest buildings in the city. At the center of the fortifications, the Notre-Dame de Beauvezer church is another unbearable.
Typical of Provencal villages, this site has everything to please its inimitable charm. And then, what about wonderful panoramas on the Wild Coast, or those of the Park of the POUSTERIE. By the way, do not hesitate to make hooks by the 12th century castle, of which there are today some vestiges, the Notre-Dame Porte or the Oil Moulin of the Pugchiers.
